3 SG-based projects join Top 10 Most Influential Projects from APAC

These are the Tengeh Floating Solar Farm, SGFinDex, and Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS.

Project Management Institute announced that three Singapore projects made it to the list of the Top 10 Most Influential Projects from APAC.

The list, originally debuted during the company’s 50th anniversary in 2019, highlights projects around the world that have achieved significant milestones and impact on society.

The three projects are the Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm, Singapore Financial Data Exchange (SGFinDex), and the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System.

Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm was made to address energy demands through the use of a 45-hectare floating solar farm to power its water treatment system. As a result of a partnership between Sembcorp Floating Solar Singapore and the country’s Public Utilities Board, a reduction in the country’s emissions by up to 32 kilotonnes annually is expected.

Meanwhile, SGFinDex was launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to address the financial wellness of residents. Through a partnership with seven banks and the country’s National Digital Identity as a foundation, a digital portal that collects financial information will allow people to view everything in one place.

On top of this, a digital financial planning service named MyMoneySense is used in conjunction to offer personalised digital financial planning advice.

The third project to be included, Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System, is a 4-kilometre rapid transit system that plans to serve nearly 300,000 people across the Malaysia-Singapore border.

Over 10,000 passengers in each direction are expected to be served, with the initiative set to cut border-crossing down to five minutes. The project is headed by RTSO Link, a joint venture formed in 2020 by public transport companies from each country. These are Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and SMRT Corp. Ltd. The project is expected to be completed by 2026.

Ben Breen, managing director, APAC and Global Head of Construction, Project Management Institute, said that this signifies Singapore’s efforts to work on ambitious mega-projects with creativity and pragmatism that will continue to transform the city-state.
