Singapore, Australia sign AI development MOU
It expands on the Singapore-Australia Digital Economy Agreement signed in 2020.
Singapore and Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption and promote responsible AI development.
The MOU expands on the Singapore-Australia Digital Economy Agreement (SADEA) signed in 2020 and supports the broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) framework.
Its objectives include fostering the exchange of best practices in AI across government, industry, and research; increasing access to AI technologies, markets, and talent; facilitating links between research and industry for commercial applications; and promoting responsible AI development through ethical governance frameworks and alignment of regulatory tools.
The agreement was signed on 16 December, by Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, and Australia’s Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic, during a bilateral meeting in Singapore.
Minister Husic emphasised the importance of international partnerships to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI, noting the shared opportunity for both nations to leverage their expertise in technology.
