Singapore Tourism Board unveils two initiatives to boost sustainable tourism
Tourist attractions may pursue certification starting in 2026.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has unveiled its Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Attraction Criteria and the MICE Venue Sustainability Playbook initiatives to bolster sustainable tourism, aligning with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
The GSTC Attraction Criteria is the first global standard tailored specifically for attractions, serving as a benchmark for sustainable practices. It aims to educate, raise awareness, guide policy, and serve as a basis for certifications.
Attractions may pursue certification starting in 2026 after the GSTC accredits certifying bodies in 2025. The criteria were developed with input from the STB, the Association of Singapore Attractions, and professionals in the attractions industry.
The MICE Venue Sustainability Playbook focuses on reducing carbon emissions at meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) venues.
It offers guidance on improving energy efficiency, waste management, and water conservation and includes a decarbonisation framework, best practices, and government support resources to promote sustainability.
This initiative reflects STB’s efforts towards enhancing Singapore’s position as a leading destination, recently earning top rankings in the Asia Pacific and globally for destination sustainability.
