NTUC LearningHub hailed at SBR Management Excellence Awards 2024
Its company mission is not to create a modern work environment but to transform the lifelong employability of working people.
One of Singapore’s leading continuing education and training providers, NTUC LearningHub, has been recognised at the prestigious SBR Management Excellence Awards 2024 for the success of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jeremy Ong, in driving various industry training initiatives at the company, which have empowered lives and livelihoods whilst staying true to NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB)'s mission and vision.
Transformative leadership in lifelong learning
Jeremy has been the CEO of NTUC LHUB since November 2021, bringing over 30 years of experience in technology, operations, and innovation. He previously served as Chief Customer & Operations Officer at AXA Singapore, where he led business process innovations, and as Senior Vice President at NTUC Enterprise, focussing on transformation and strategic partnerships.
Before joining NTUC, Jeremy held senior executive roles in technology firms, managing key projects like the FAST payment system for PayNow. He also held leadership positions in the civil service.
At the centre of Jeremy’s leadership is a clear and transformative vision: to empower individuals with skills for personal and professional success by championing lifelong learning and employability for all workers, positioning NTUC LHUB as the heart of Singapore’s lifelong learning culture.
Under his leadership, NTUC LHUB aims to build a holistic ecosystem that addresses skill gaps, leveraging its unique position within the Labour Movement and NTUC’s Training and Placement Ecosystem.
His vision also includes transforming the NTUC LearningHub Learning eXperience Platform (LXP) into a digital marketplace, connecting all stakeholders to support the training and placement of workers. The focus is on growing 13 identified sectors, such as technology, sustainability, healthcare, tourism, retail, and more, to meet the demand for in-demand and emerging job roles.
Leading workforce transformation initiatives
Jeremy has led several key initiatives to drive workforce transformation. Amongst these is LXP, an online mobile app offering over 80,000 courses to empower individuals to reskill and upskill at their own pace. With new partnerships like LinkedIn Learning bringing an addition of over 23,000 courses, the platform provides learners with career-aligned courses, broadening their skillset and job prospects.
Following NTUC LHUB’s appointment as a Continuing Education & Training (CET) Centre for the retail sector by SkillsFuture Singapore in 2022, Jeremy oversaw the launch of the NTUC LHUB Retail Institute to help attract and retain talent through strategic partnerships, skills training, and career development plans.
Jeremy also introduced the NTUC LHUB Tech Talent Academy (TTA) to attract and nurture tech talent in Singapore. This academy bridges the gap between the demand for tech talent and the supply of skilled workers by sourcing, training, and placing talent within a holistic ecosystem
Since its launch in January 2024, the TTA has established partnerships with multiple companies, with many more from various sectors and industries keen on coming onboard for their hiring and training needs in the tech space. Additionally, the "X for Everyone" series was introduced to democratise access to foundational tech skills in Generative AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, to benefit trainees over the next two years.
Jeremy has also made sustainability a core focus for NTUC LHUB, with several initiatives aimed at empowering professionals with green skills. One notable programme is the Certified Sustainability Practitioner, developed in collaboration with the Centre of Sustainability and Excellence. This programme equips professionals with the tools needed to lead sustainability efforts and implement comprehensive ESG strategies.
In addition, NTUC LHUB launched its first Electric Vehicle (EV) training simulator centre in partnership with BYD, enhancing the delivery of its EV courses. This facility allows trainees to gain hands-on experience in safe EV maintenance and parts inspection. The Zero Waste Manager course, supported by the National Environment Agency, further aids companies in adopting sustainable waste management practices.
To support the growth of Singapore’s tourism sector, Jeremy’s vision has been instrumental in launching training programmes aimed at supporting the recovery of Singapore’s tourism industry post-pandemic. Through partnerships with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), and the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), these programmes focus on equipping tourism professionals with the relevant skills to deliver sustainable and environmentally conscious travel experiences.
NTUC LHUB has committed to upskilling 15,000 workers across Sentosa, formalising the partnership with SDC, through an MOU signed in July 2024. Additionally, the collaboration with the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) has introduced the Certified Event Sustainability (CES) accreditation, certifying CES professionals to provide them with the practical frameworks and toolkits needed to lead sustainability initiatives and drive sustainable growth within organisations.
The latest MOU with Singapore EXPO further expands its training offerings, including service experience courses and business transformation workshops, to support the MICE industry and future-proof Singapore’s workforce.
Jeremy is also a strong advocate for NTUC LHUB to offer certifications that are recognised both globally and locally, ensuring that professionals are equipped with credentials that meet international standards whilst also addressing local industry needs. Under the partnership with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), events professionals in Singapore can look forward to a range of internationally recognised training programmes specifically contextualised for business events held in Singapore.
Through these initiatives, Jeremy continues to position NTUC LHUB as a leader in workforce transformation in Singapore, living up to NTUC LHUB’s shared vision of transforming “Every Worker into a Better Worker, Every Job into a Better Job, and Every Company into a Better Company”.
